Dancing Flame Ballet

Classes
Since I believe sharing skill & knowledge is one of the most important steps in the evolution of an art form and particularly one that involves such whole body discipline like dance does, I offer instruction for any age & level with the goal of perfecting not only technique but also dramatic & aesthetic expression. My philosophy of teaching is based as much on strong academic technique as on a more modern approach that focuses on the intuitive side of dance; the Mill Ballet School where I've trained on & off for several years, as well as the philosophy of Isadora Duncan have given me a passion for that side of dance which is unrelated to technique, or rather an addition to it - since technical improvement always allows for better expression. Thus I have a double goal in teaching: first I want to make your technique better and then I want to make you more expressive and passionate about your dancing.

Isadora Duncan's philosophy (behind my teaching)
Isadora Duncan was an American dancer & choreographer who was a pioneer of modern dance, teaching a unique way of approaching movement that created many followers in her lifetime and after. She opened several schools in Europe, the first of these in Germany-Grunewald, then in Paris, before moving to the United States. She wanted to teach as much dance as her philosophy of art: she believed that Art had sacred roots in Ancient Greece, as well as the folk dances of nations, and most importantly, she believed that movement originated from the solar plexus, situated behind the stomach, thus approximately at the centre of the body.
I particularly like that idea because it hints at the fact that the strength and capacity of the human body for harmonious movement comes from the inside rather than the outside, and that it's by starting at the base that we work up to the periphery, rather than the contrary. This is well proven by the fact that core strength is indispensable to progress & mastery in any style of dance; it also evokes the importance of intuitive understanding of dance, because once we've returned at the root the details come on their own.

My experience
I started out teaching my family & friends in my small apartment, then at my workplace as a team-building activity for the employees there. Then, I taught for a year at the Emily Rose Dance Creations studio in Newtown Square, PA, where my arrival prompted the creation of adult ballet classes in which I was specialized. I also taught children from 6 to 13 years old, and choreographed their recital dances. It was also there that I gained experience in teaching tap for beginners.
